Colin Smith — Director and Principal Consultant

Colin is a highly-experienced forensic leader and former Senior Civil Servant, with over 30 years’ experience in law enforcement, digital forensics, and national security investigations. He has led some of the UK’s most complex forensic programmes, shaping policy, operational standards, and compliance with the Forensic Science Regulator’s Codes and ISO/IEC 17025.
Colin brings a unique combination of strategic leadership, deep technical expertise, and a thorough understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks that govern forensic practice. He founded Meridian Edge to help organisations strengthen their forensic and investigative capabilities through trusted, evidence led consulting.
As a leader, Colin practices a people-driven ethos founded on empowerment, trust, and inclusion — an approach proven to deliver high-performing teams and sustainable outcomes. He has been trained through the UK Civil Service’s prestigious senior leadership programmes, equipping him with the skills to drive organisational change and leadership excellence.
